Kempt Field will close in early September for remediation works. Subsidence and contamination issues, including methane gas and asbestos, were found. The site, historically used as a landfill, will undergo an extensive $11.8 million remediation. The NSW Department of Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure (DPHI) will lead the work. It will ensure the site is safe for future public use.
The public toilets are in the work area. So, they are closed and will remain closed for the duration of the works.
We will carefully remove, rehabilitate, and integrate parts of the Kempt Field playground into upgraded play spaces around the Georges River. This will provide children with safe, fun areas while we remediate the site.
