Georges River Council was thrilled to officially open the Olds Park Recreational and Sporting Hardscape precinct on Saturday 17 February.
Funded by the NSW Government in association with Georges River Council under the Greater Cities Sport Facility Fund, this project involved the construction of a fantastic new active recreation zone.
The new precinct features:
- Flowy street style skate park.
- Shaded seating areas.
- Three netball courts featuring senior and junior goalposts.
- Two netball/basketball multi courts.
- Bike and skateboard repair stations.
The new state of the art precinct brings the 2020 Master Plan for the site to life, which focused on providing sporting facilities suitable for people of all fitness levels including women/girls and people with disabilities. It also meets best practice and ongoing community demand.
Council has developed strong sporting facility protocols that ensures Council continues to develop facilities that empower community members to be able to participate in all aspects of life, including sport, freely and safely, developing positive social and health outcomes.
Minister for Sport, Steve Kamper, said projects like these show the NSW Government’s commitment to creating spaces and facilities that enable communities to enjoy and take part in sport.
“Local sport infrastructure plays a critical role in keeping people healthy, active and connected and this new precinct is designed to bring all members of the community together, now and into the future.”
The official opening of the precinct will also feature a Skating Competition run by Sydney-based skate school, Skateology.
Georges River Council Mayor Sam Elmir said that this new recreational precinct was a fantastic addition to the Georges River area.
“It shows Council’s continued dedication to delivering quality recreational and sporting facilities to the local community.
“I encourage all members of our community to come down and enjoy the new facilities, get active and have some fun,” added the Mayor.
