Georges River Council is proud to offer and promote a number of initiatives across the Georges River local government area in support of NSW Mental Health Month.
To be held throughout October, the initiatives are dedicated to fostering mindfulness, connection and self-care, and are designed for individuals of all ages and backgrounds who are seeking to improve their mental health and wellbeing. From craft and creative workshops to yoga and social groups – there are plenty of opportunities to fuel the mind and body.
Some key activities include:
- Healthy Minds & Wellbeing Expo.
- Community Mental Health Outreach.
- Cultural Wellbeing Day on Country.
A Wellness Zone will be established at Clive James Library, Kogarah, providing a tranquil space for all members of the community to engage in passive activities with a focus on mental health. Resources will also be available to individuals, as a guidance for adopting strategies to support good mental health or find relevant services in the local area.
Georges River Libraries are also offering visitors a self-care bingo card with prompts to help practice mindful activities, along with recommended books and e-books to understand and improve mental health.
Georges River Council General Manager David Tuxford said: “Mental Health Month is about looking after ourselves and each other.
“Our initiatives this October provide our community with opportunities to connect, learn, and access valuable resources. Whether it’s a program, a walk, or just a friendly chat, these initiatives remind us that supporting one another and fostering a caring community is a role we all share.
“Together, we’re building a stronger, more supportive community where no one feels like they have to go it alone," he said.
