Foreshore Scenic Character Study

Ethos Urban has prepared a Foreshore Scenic Character Study for Council. This Study investigates the mapped extent and zoning of the Foreshore Scenic Protection Area (FSPA), in accordance with the resolution made by the Georges River Local Planning Panel on 25 and 26 June 2020

The Study clarifies the types of local character present in the Georges River foreshore areas through surveys of every street. The Neighbourhood Character Site Survey Matrix details the findings of the street-by-street surveys.

The Study is a technical and evidence-based document and it was reported to Council’s meeting in June 2021 along with the Georges River Biodiversity Study.

Ethos Urban has developed a set of Frequently Asked Questions to help with understanding the Foreshore Study.

These two Studies made a number of recommendations, including changes to the Georges River Local Environmental Plan and the accompanying Development Control Plan to address many of the current gaps and issues to appropriately protect and enhance the values of biodiversity, local character and scenic qualities of the Georges River. The recommended planning controls are outlined in two reports:

At its meeting on 25 March 2024, Council resolved to prepare a Biodiversity and Character Planning Proposal to amend the Georges River Local Environmental Plan by implementing the recommendations of the two Studies.
