Bowling clubs have existed in Australia since the 19th century. They reached their peak during the 1920s -1970s, often serving as important locations for community recreation and social events.

Bias Binding explored the history and development of the many lawn bowling clubs and greens established and operated in the St George region from the early 20th century onwards.
